Orthoptics

Value through innovation and creativity

The Profession

An orthoptist is a health professional specializing in the assessment, analysis, rehabilitation, and adaptation of the visual and ocular system in children and adults. Working alongside ophthalmologists, they work in both private practice and hospital settings. Their areas of expertise include the treatment of disorders such as strabismus (crossing eyes), amblyopia (lazy eye), diplopia (double vision), low vision (poor vision), and various neurological problems related to vision (visual field disorders, problems with spatial location or recognition of objects and faces, vertigo, etc.). They also play a key role in functional rehabilitation teams for people with visual impairments.

The program

The training begins with an exploratory phase, allowing students to familiarize themselves with various specialized fields. It then focuses on sciences — including human anatomy, physical principles, and social sciences — to develop a deep understanding of the patient-caregiver relationship. Pathologies, treatments, and specific patient groups are also studied in depth. Internships play a key role in developing professional and management skills for future practice. At the same time, students strengthen their abilities in psychology and communication to ensure effective interaction with patients.
